To help and promote the museums in any way the curator may request, to assist in cataloguing, volunteering and to provide stewards for exhibitions and special events.

To raise funds through membership fees, entrance fees to meetings, tombola’s, raffles, the sale of cards and second hand books, donations and bequests.

The Friends meet once a month throughout the year, on the second Wednesday morning of the month, there is a calendar of talks and presentations on local and historical topics. We have two annual outings each year to places of historical interest, Members are encouraged to bring along family and friends to our gatherings.

The Friends are members of the British Association of Friends of Museums, and where ever possible we attend meetings organised by BAFM at a national and regional level. BAFM publish a quarterly journal which which invites Friends groups to contribute articles, The Friends of Luton Museums have had several articles published.

The aims of the Friends of Luton Museums:

A chance find on E-Bay by a museum curator, Bob Hope’s Boater, presented to him by the Mayor of Luton in 1953.It was purchased by the Friends as an important addition to the museum’s hat collection. The hat was made by H. Briaers of May Street Luton.
